Most visitors to the United States need either a visitor visa (B-2) or, if their country is part of the Visa Waiver Program, an approved ESTA before they fly. Which one you need depends on your passport, so please check the official sources below before you book flights.

Visa appointments can take months in some countries, so start early. Your passport should be valid for your whole stay. International students should also check travel plans with their school’s international office.
